Helping You Live Better With Cancer
Empowering your cancer experience
with naturopathic, whole-body support
At the Bernard Integrative Cancer Center
Dr Megan Bernard
Owner and Naturopathic Doctor
We believe that being diagnosed with cancer doesn't have to mean months of harsh treatments between naps on the couch. We will work with you - the parent, grandparent, co-worker, friend - to maximize the efficacy of your treatment, to increase your number of "good days", and to maintain and improve your health post-diagnosis.
You and your team will work together to create an evidence-based and personalized plan that fits your lifestyle and health goals. Prevent and treat side effects from treatment, such as brain fog, fatigue, neuropathy, and gastrointestinal discomfort using natural strategies.
We will focus on YOU and not just your cancer.
If you have a precancerous condition, a previous cancer diagnosis, or a strong family history of cancer, you and your team will work on a preventative and individualized strategy that optimizes your potential for staying cancer-free.
At the Bernard Integrative Cancer Center, you are treated like family. As a team, we will make tackling cancer more manageable and comfortable.
Here's What To Expect
Before Your Visit
Please fill out the intake form before the day of your visit and bring/submit any blood work, scans, and/or pathology reports relevant to your concern.
It is very important that we have a list of your previous and/or current treatment plan, including all medications. Without these, your treatment plan may be delayed.
You can expect your first consultation to involve a thorough intake, focused physical examination, requisitioned testing and preliminary treatment recommendations.
General recommendations will likely be made regarding nutrition, exercise, and supplementation. Almost all patients are recommended to have a vitamin D finger prick test and adrenal/stress urine test in the initial consultation.
Individualized medicine means investigating and reviewing your unique biochemistry and physiology. This often involves comprehensive bloodwork and other more specialized testing such as hormone, digestive, and nutrient testing, much of which is performed in-office in your first visit.
Medication/supplement interactions and nutrient depletions are also investigated.
Your plan may involve prescriptions in your initial visit that will be further refined after we have the opportunity to review any test results. Often, your therapeutic plan will involve in-office treatments, such as vitamin B12 injections, intravenous (IV) infusions, or acupuncture, alongside concurrent prescriptions such as dietary changes, targeted supplementation, and/or lifestyle modifications. We will now have the beginnings of a solid foundation to optimize your health in a sustainable way.
Please note that you will require multiple visits for optimal results.
We will adjust our protocols based on your conventional treatment plan, side effects experienced, and your body's physiological needs.
Wellness is a journey, not a destination. When we work together over time, we will consistently be refining your treatment plan to address and meet your ongoing goals, needs, and aspirations. The goal is to always get you to a place of pro-activity and prevention – way beyond just the status quo. We will follow you from diagnosis, through treatment, and into recovery and secondary prevention.
